World Wildlife Day At Malindi National Park

Life Below The Water – 3rd March 2019

On 3rd March 2019, we shall be observing World Wildlife Day at the Malindi Marine National Park. This year’s theme is Life Below Water; for People and Planet – an awareness campaign highlighting the loss of animal and plant species, and the need for action.

In Malindi Marine Park on the Kenyan coast Kenya Wildlife Service Malindi Marine Park with Kenya Wildlife Service, Watamu will be be honoring World Wildlife Day and the Fifty Plus One birthday Celebration of the the Malindi Watamu Marine Park and Reserve on the 2nd and 3rd March 2019

As the custodian of wildlife in Kenya, we acknowledge the incredible marine life at our Marine Parks as a key natural resource for the benefit of key stakeholders, including local communities and the tourism industry. We also acknowledge that the marine ecosystem is under threat from over-exploitation including pollution and other human activities.

The United Nations Development Programme – UNDP declared that the 3rd March 2019 should mark the “Life Below Water for People and Planet” awareness campaign highlighting the loss of animal and plant species, and the need for action.
Kenya Wildlife Service has declared this day to highlight the threats to marine life including pollution. We will provide a schedule of events and welcome public participation.

One of our surest way of enhancing public awareness on the plight of the life under water (marine and other aquatic areas) is through involvement, education and public awareness on the impact of their actions to the marine species.

Thus, our goal this year is to enhance goodwill from hoteliers, fishermen, boat operators and the general public towards conservation of our marine ecosystem through a beach clean up at the Malindi and Mombasa Marine Parks. Other activities will include mangrove planting among others.

Also in conjugation KWS will be celebrating 50 plus one years of gazettement as the oldest Marine Park in Kenya. We will be acknowledging the incredible marine life in the Park as a key natural resource for the benefit of key stakeholders, including local communities and the tourism industry, attracting visitors from Kenya and overseas.

All stakeholders and institutions are invited to exhibit products and services at an exhibition in the Malindi Marine Park on both the 2nd and 3rd March.
