Seychelles Experience The Island Of Praslin with Go Places

Praslin Island In Seychelles

Praslin, which is the second largest island in Seychelles has many attributes that are especially popular with visitors. The island was once known as Ile des Palmes, probably because of its dense forest of coconut palms that prevented its greatest secret, The Vallee de Mai, from being discovered earlier. Its highest point is, Fond B’offay, which is 367m high.

The Vallee de Mai

The Vallee de Mai is the world-famous valley where the fabulous Coco-de-mer or double-lobed coconut, in the exact form of the female pelvis, grows on ancient palms. This is the world’s heaviest seed, weighing in at anywhere between 15 and 30kg and for centuries it was thought to come from a tree beneath the ocean. When General Gordon of Khartoum visited the valley in the 18th century he returned to London claiming that the Vallee de Mai was the original site of the biblical Garden of Eden. Today, it is one of Seychelles’ two UNESCO World Heritage sites, one of the best places you should visit during your vacation.

Beaches in Praslin

Apart from its unique flora & fauna, Praslin is also home to some of Seychelles’ most spectacular beaches while its small population and gentle pace of life make it the ideal place for a laid-back holiday with all the frills.  It’s known for palm-fringed beaches, like Anse Georgette and Anse Lazio, both bordered by large granite boulders. The main beach, Anse Volbert-Côte D’Or, faces the offshore islet Chauve Souris. Anse Lazio and Anse Georgette, two of the beaches on the island that rank among the world’s top stretches of sand, frequently pick up awards for their stunning natural beauty and the second you arrive you’ll see why. The beaches are safe for swimming and offshore, the turquoise waters are teeming with living coral and over 900 species of fish, making it a superb spot for snorkelling. The diving is every bit as good as the snorkelling.
