National Tourism Blueprint 2030 and National Wildlife Strategy 2030

The Ministry of Tourism and Wildlife in collaboration with key players in the tourism industry held a launch to unveil the National Tourism Blueprint 2030 and the National Wildlife Strategy 2030 on the 12th June 2018 at the Kenyatta International Convention Center in Nairobi.

The evening event was graced by His Excellency Hon. William Ruto, Deputy President of Republic of Kenya as the Chief Guest. While at the event, he emphasized on the need for tourism sector to review its marketing strategy as part of the efforts to attract more tourists into the country. He said there was need to make a decisive and strategic change in direction to ensure that the country’s tourism unlocks its maximum potential.

Wildlife is a source of national pride, the foundation for the tourism industry that contributes 10% of National Gross development project (GDP) and 11% of total formal workforce. However, the exponential increases in population in Kenya and changes in land use, including human settlements, urbanization, large infrastructure projects and agricultural expansion, are edging out wildlife in the critical wildlife dispersal areas. Human wildlife conflicts and commercial poaching remains a substantial threat to wildlife conservation in Kenya and in the region.

The National Wildlife Strategy (2018-2030), aims to transform the role and recognition of wildlife within Kenyan society. Guided by the overall vision, the Strategy provides a coordinating framework and blueprint for addressing current and emerging challenges for transformative change. To achieve this desired change the strategy must fit within existing structures and processes. It identified four core pillars; resilient ecosystems, public participation, evidence based decision making and sustainability & governance. It’s of great importance to focus on these four main pillars, to sustain a healthy tourism industry.
