Lost In The Marvels Of Jordan The Holy Land, Experience With Nev At Amman City Citadel

Experience With Nev Jiwani At Jordan- Day 1 Amman City Citadel

The personal fam trip was organized by the Jordan Tourism Board News Jordan Embassy and the world-renowned international airline, Ethiopian Airlines. I had an absolutely incredible time exploring the Citadel in Jordan led by Araphtha, the most competent tour guide that explained the amazing history of Citadel ruins.

Jordan is a country that is steeped in history and culture, with a rich tradition that dates back thousands of years. It is a popular destination for tourists from all over the world who come to explore its ancient ruins, marvel at its natural wonders, and experience the hospitality of its people.

Amman City Citadel

I had an absolutely incredible time exploring the Citadel in Jordan! The Amman Citadel, also known as Jabal al-Qala’a, is a historic site located in the heart of Amman, Jordan. This ancient site is perched on top of a hill, providing breathtaking views of the city and the surrounding landscape. The Citadel is a popular tourist destination, and for good reason. It is home to several enchanting ruins that offer insight into the region’s history.

Temple Of Hercules

It is amazing to think about the history that I was able to capture with my camera, that this temple has witnessed over the centuries.

One of the most popular ruins at the Citadel is the Temple of Hercules. This impressive structure dates back to the 2nd century AD and is believed to have been built during the reign of Emperor Marcus Aurelius. The temple consists of towering columns and a massive stone hand believed to have belonged to a statue of Hercules.

Umayyad Congregational Mosque

Another captivating ruin that enticed me, at the Citadel is the Umayyad congregational Mosque. This mosque was built in the 8th century and is considered one of the oldest and most important mosques in Jordan. It features intricate designs and beautiful mosaics and carvings are a testament to the skilled craftsmen who created it, and visitors across the globe are welcome to explore and take photos of the interior. I personally would recommend this as part of a day’s excursion.

Jordan Archaeological Museum

In addition to the ruins, the Citadel is also home to a museum. The Jordan Archaeological Museum is located on the site and offers visitors a fascinating look at the history of Jordan. The museum features exhibits on everything from ancient artifacts to Islamic art and architecture. Some of the highlights of the museum include a collection of Nabatean artifacts, including pottery and jewelry, and a collection of Dead Sea Scrolls.

The Roman Theatre

The Roman Theater is a must-see for anyone visiting the Amman Citadel. It is a testament to the impressive architectural and engineering skills of the ancient Romans and offers a fascinating glimpse into the cultural history of the region.

I found the Roman Theater to be one of the most impressive and well-preserved ruins at the Amman Citadel. It was built in the 2nd century AD, during the reign of Emperor Antoninus Pius. The theatre was designed to seat around 6,000 spectators and was used for a variety of performances, including plays, concerts, and religious ceremonies.

Today, visitors to the Citadel can explore the Roman Theater and marvel at its impressive architecture. The theatre consists of three tiers of seating, with each tier divided into several sections by staircases and walkways. The stage is framed by two impressive columns and features a number of intricate carvings and decorations.

A visit to the Amman Citadel is a must-see for anyone interested in history or archaeology. The site is home to some of the most impressive ruins in Jordan and offers a fascinating glimpse into the region’s rich past.
