My Old Time Favourite

My recent trip to the Kenya Coast for the launch of Fort Jesus Enchanting Experience Light, Sound and Multimedia Show was highlighted with an invitation from the management of Tamarind Mombasa. This has been my old time favorite restaurant and I never missed a dinner every time I am on the North Coast of Magical Kenya.

Tamarind Mombasa is a multiple award-winning restaurant and globally renowned for being one of the finest seafood restaurants in Kenya! It is nothing short of a spectacle of inspiring seafood culinary creations all impeccably prepared and plated to perfection in the most magical of settings. The menu spans French, Asian and African cuisines deliciously flavored with local ingredients and include sumptuous; Oysters, Mixed Seafood Platters, Chilli Crab, Lobster Thermidor, Prawns Piri Piri and much more – in an opulent Arab-styled starlit terrace with a picturesque panoramic view of Mombasa’s Old Harbor.

The Dawa Terrace

This was the starting point where we enjoyed the classic Carnivore Dawa and watched the sunset on this beautiful terrace as we placed our order from the menu. We were served with signature bitings with our cocktails that included Fried Coconut Glazed with Honey and Paprika, Crispy Fried Shrimps with Chilli and Fried Peanuts ….Simply delicious


The Restaurant

Arab Style ambiance overlooking the Old Port of Mombasa. Tables are well spaced out for social distancing while all health protocols are followed and complied with.


So what was on the menu?

Starters: We love our Oysters and ordered all three varieties of platters. These included The Mambrui– grilled with Garlic butter, Soy and Fresh Coconut, Ala Maison-Grilled with Sauteed Mushrooms, Garlic and Spicy Hollandaise as well as the Fresh on Ice with Lime Wedges and I like mine with a dash of Tobasaco…. Mambrui is Must Try! with heavenly taste bursting with flavours.


Main Course

My hubby ordered the King Prawns Piri-Piri – Garlic, Ginger, Paprika and Piripiri Butter. Simply to die for!


I ordered the Ginger Crab – Ginger, Soy and Spring Onion ...What can I say … OMG I finished it all

Yes! they put on and Bip for you and provide you all the tools to break into those Crab Claws where most of the sweet meat hides.



My better half ordered his favourite dessert the Trio of Creme Brulee-Cream – Vanilla, Espresso and Amarula…  Now you see it, Now you don’t


I ordered the Chocolate Sphere-Milk – Chocolate and Moist Chocolate Cake with Vanilla Ice Cream and Diced Mango….. Happiness is truly the Key to Life
