Busting The Seasonality Myth Of The Mara

At The Mara Engai Wilderness Lodge

If what we’ve highlighted already isn’t enough to bust the seasonality myth of the Mara, How about these incredible advantages of an off-season visit:

Much Less Traffic

By travelling in the low and shoulder times you will never get stuck in a game viewing traffic jam or need to compete for space at wildlife sightings.

Travelling in the less-crowded rainy season makes for a more authentic experience – one that allows you to connect more personally with the wildlife and local people of the Masai Mara.  Because of the lower frequency of tourists, it gives you more time and space to appreciate the wildlife and savannahs in peace.

Unique Photographic Time Of The Year

The rainy seasons offers brilliant conditions for photography in our game park, which comes alive with the rains. During the gorgeous wet season, the light is intense and moody, making for dramatic sunsets. The rain makes the grasslands spectacularly green are green and settle all the dust from the dry season leaving the air, landscapes and vegetation fresh, crisp and striking.

For photography enthusiasts, this is the perfect time due to frolicking young wildlife and migratory birds, as well as predators taking advantage of the abundance of prey.

The Optimal Time For Baby Animals & Birdwatching

Many of the animals on the Masai Mara give birth in the wet seasons when sources of food and water are rich, making it the best time to see baby animals, especially cubs and pups.

For bird lovers, the quieter months are when flocks of migratory birds arrive for the wet summer season as the great lakes attract a bright and wide variety of birdlife! Lake Nakuru attracts over 400 migratory bird species from across the planet.

In The Words Of Our Guests

Don’t take our word for it, here are a few reviews by guests who recently visited our wilderness lodge:

Abaraldi from Mexico City:

Our stay in Mara Engai was a highlight for our African safari trip. The rooms are very spacious, yet cosy… And the service in the hotel was outstanding. Masai Mara is also an incredible park. Hope to come back some day!

Mackett from the United Kingdom

Just came back from here with a family of 10. As we landed, another family were leaving and told us that we had chosen the best place to stay, and in all honesty, they were right. The drivers decided to take us on a mini safari on the way to the hotel and out of sheer luck managed to see a live Lion kill.

When we got the lodge, the views were breathtaking as it is almost 1800ft up. The staff provided a warm welcome and throughout the stay went to great lengths to ensure we were all comfortable and safe. The Chefs were also talented and willing to make custom food if required to suit the family.

Part Time Travellers from the United Kingdom:

We stayed in Mara Engai for a couple of nights and we will never forget it! The lodge is located at around 2000m above the water and it has a stunning view for the whole national park! You cannot get a better view of Mara.

Every day at Breakfast and dinner time you will appreciate the view with very tasty food. You might wonder where all the healthy food comes from, but for that, you should take a small tour for Mara Engai’s own fruit and vegetable garden. You can learn how everything looks like when it grows. We found it very interesting and would definitely recommend going to see it!

When it comes to the rooms, they are so grand for the place where they are. It is like a big tree house built in the jungle. The experience of sleeping there was so unforgettable, you can hear all the animals and that is why you are going to Masai Mara!

One of the dinners we had outside involved a traditional Masai ceremony, including dance and singing. It makes you feel so close to the local culture.

Everybody from the lodge is so friendly and happy to share their stories, teach you about their culture and life.

We loved being in Mara Engai, the place is of a very high standard and that makes your safari experience even more enjoyable!
